  • Year 1 African workshops

    Mon 10 Sep 2018

Year 1 were extremely excited to have some very special visitors join us for African drumming and dancing workshops today.  The drumming session was a great success, with the children thoroughly enjoying being allowed to make as much noise as possible!  The children learnt a lot about how and why drums are used throughout Africa, before learning to play some simple rhythms.  Year 1 were also lucky enough to enjoy a dance session led by Tongi.  He taught the children a traditional dance that is often seen at celebrations and weddings, before teaching them a song in one of his 12 languages!  All the children thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and it was a fantastic way to kick off our topic 'What African Wonders Await?'.

  • Year 6 trip to Armley Mills

    Fri 07 Sep 2018

To kick off the Autumn Term Topic 'Does History Repeat Itself?' Year 6 took part in a trip to Armley Mills museum to experience just what it was like to be a child evacuee in the war. The children, dressed for the part, were taken to an old fashioned classroom where they role-played life in 1940's Britain for children who were having to leave their families and head off for an unknown future in the country. A very strict school teacher inspected the children for gas masks, identity cards, ration booklets (and nits!) to see whether they had everything they needed for the trip. They were then educated in the ways of the war including the 'Dig for Victory' campaign and 'Make-do and Mend'. It was a fantastic way for the children to get a first-hand experience of WW2 and one which we will use to help them build their education on in the coming topic.

  • Year 4 trip into Leeds

    Thu 06 Sep 2018

Year 4 had a fantastic time on their trip into Leeds. They explored the Leeds City Museum and learnt all about how Leeds has changed throughout the years to become the city it is today. Then they went into Millennium Square to practise their sketching skills, they each sketched the Civic Hall, the museum and The Electric Press building. After lunch they began their owl trail, we walked all around Leeds searching and counting the owls and learning a little about some of the buildings along the way.  The children behaved extremely well all day.  Well done Year 4.

  • Year 5/6 Production 'Five go back to the future.'

    Thu 19 Jul 2018
The curtain has fallen on another Year 5 and 6 production with the children still humming hits from the 80s in every corner of the school. This year's production saw the 'real' story of Enid Blyton's famous five: Five go back to the Future. The tale explained how the five become entangled in an adventure with their uncle to go and rescue Timmy the Dog who has become stuck in the future. However, the story takes an unexpected turn as Uncle Emmett's time machine (disguised as a Gramophone Player to avoid the clutches of thieves) becomes broken and the adventurers find themselves bouncing around time trying to get home. With every stop they must make sure not to influence the future accidentally in any way; fortunately this is no problem as they only bump into a random selection of young musicians and what impact could they possibly have on the future of mankind? It was a thoroughly enjoyable performance that included all the usual aspect of music and dance as well as some wonderful acting performances with particular attention being paid to the five of Lucca (Julian) Geordie (Dick) Katie (George) Maddy (Anne) and Archie (Timmy). All of the actors put huge amounts of effort into learning their lines and giving up their personal time for the production. Well done to everyone involved
  • Reception and Year 1 Fun Morning

    Wed 18 Jul 2018

Our children in Reception and Year 1 had a brilliant morning on Wednesday enjoying their fun day. Lots of parents joined to help us celebrate another successful year and we know all of the children enjoyed sharing the morning with them too. The morning was filled with fun packed activities including crafts, an inflatable assault course with a giant slide, fun parachute games and ice lollies to name just a few. The children were kept well and truly busy for the entire morning. They finished the morning having lunch at their teddy bears’ picnic. It was a lovely morning and all the children seemed to have a great time.

  • ICT NACCE Mark

    Tue 17 Jul 2018

We have just secured the ICT NACCE Mark for the third time running.  The award recognises the school’s success in developing the strategic use of technology in both administration and across the curriculum.  It recognises our positive approach to the use of technology and the benefits it is bringing to our children.  Thanks to Mrs Bennett and Mr Bradshaw for leading of this work and ensuring we were successful yet again!

  • Rhythms of the World project

    Wed 20 Jun 2018 Mrs Ashley-Cooper
The Rhythms of the World is a project in collaboration with Co-op Academy Priesthorpe which has been giving some of our Year 5 and 6 children an opportunity to learn drumming from different parts of the world. The children have been involved in this project over the course of the Summer term with a concert to showcase their skills on Thursday July 12th. The children have been learning samba and djembe drumming whilst children from Farfield have been learning dhol drumming and bhangra dancing. The children have learnt a huge variety of rhythms, how to play the instruments properly, lots of musical terms and also how to play together in a group, which is harder than you'd think! The children have been really dedicated and have worked really hard. Well done to all involved!
  • The Big Sing!

    Wed 20 Jun 2018 Mrs Ashley-Cooper
This afternoon we took a group of Key Stage Two children to Leeds Town Hall to take part in The Big Sing! Many different schools from the Leeds area were also part of this singing workshop and the sound of hundreds of children in this amazing place was just fabulous. The children learn a variety of songs, some with harmony parts, which really sounded great. The songs included Touch the Sky from Brave, Something Inside So Strong, and Count on Me by Bruno Mars, amongst others. The children put in lots of energy and behaved beautifully all afternoon. Well done to all the singers involved!
