  • Mcmillian Charity fundraising event

    Fri 29 Sep 2017

On Friday 29th September Year 6 ran the annual giant coffee morning/afternoon in order to raise money for Macmillan, a charity which does amazing work supporting people with cancer and their families throughout their treatment and beyond. The children spent time in the build up to the coffee morning researching the fantastic work that the charity does and used their new knowledge to make fact sheets and posters to put around our coffee day. The children worked tirelessly, not only providing first class service to their customers but also providing some great entertainment.  They have raised a fantastic £850.43 which will be donated to the charity in order to support their research and their work around the country.  A huge thank you to everyone who bought a cup of tea or coffee and a cake for supporting Year 6 on the day!

  • Poetry day

    Thu 28 Sep 2017

Year 2 enjoyed a visit from the local author and poet, Christina Gabbitas, for National Poetry day with Year 1 and Reception.  The children enjoyed listening to rhyming songs and stories as part of a read along assembly.  They loved meeting all the creative characters from the rhyming story, ‘Felicity Fly Meets the Dragon Fruit and Friends’.   Each KS2 class took part in a half an hour poetry workshop where they created an eight line rhyming poem all about the seasons.  They also had the opportunity to listen to some of Christina's poems and ask questions about what it's like to be a poet.  All in all it was a lovely day.  Thanks to Christina for spending it at Springbank.

  • Online Safety day

    Fri 15 Sep 2017

The internet is potentially a wonderful resource but as we all know there are also risks associated with using the internet/social media and we have a well-developed curriculum aimed at teaching the children how to keep themselves safe online. On Friday 15th September all our KS2 and KS1 children school took part in an Online Safety Day which looked at a broad range of topics linked to how we stay safe on the internet. Topics included how to ensure we keep our passwords safe, how to interact with other internet users and why it is important to always speak to an adult if we are worried about anything we see or hear online. This year we also had a competition where the children were all asked to develop an idea for a 60 second film about Online Safety. The winning pupils will work with Mr Bradshaw later this year and have the opportunity to see their idea turned into a proper film!

  • Springbankers star in Leeds Books Awards promotional video

    Thu 07 Sep 2017

Some of the departed members of Year 6 have been included in a promotional video discussing their involvement in the 2017 Leeds Book Awards. The children were filmed at the event earlier this year when they were challenged to read six books in six weeks and vote for their favourite author. It was a fantastic event and one that we are thoroughly excited about entering into again this year. Please follow the link below to see what our children had to say about their experience.

  • Music concert

    Thu 20 Jul 2017 Mrs Ashley-Cooper
This afternoon we welcomed the children, staff and families to come and enjoy a lovely variety of musical talent in our first music concert. It was a real success with group and solo performances on instruments including strings, woodwind, brass, percussion, keyboards and some singing and dancing too. Many of our children have been learning their instruments for just a matter of months and the progress they have made in this time is just great. Well done to all the children who performed and thank you to all staff involved.

  • Summer Festival of Voice Concert

Fri 07 Jul 2017 Mrs Darlison
I would like to say a huge thank you to all the children who performed at the Summer Festival of Voices concert at St John's Church last Saturday. The Glee Club, along with a group of children from KS2 performed three songs at the concert alongside groups from the local community. The children were incredible. They behaved impeccably and so many people commented on how beautiful their singing was. It was so lovely to be invited to sing at a community event. Thank you to all parents and carers who supported with this.
  • Springbank Athletes do the Double

    Thu 29 Jun 2017 S Chapman
Farsley Springbank and Westroyd became 2017 Mini Olympic champions last week after beating the rest of the schools in Pudsey to claim the title. It is the third time now that a combined group of KS2 children from Springbank and KS1 children from Westroyd have joined forces to become outright winners of the contest since its introduction in 2012. It was also a very fitting result as this was the last time that both schools will enter the competition as a joint team; instead, next year, Springbank will make up their own team from KS1 and KS2 and Westroyd will be making up their own team. The event at the John Charles Centre for Sport saw boys and girls from Year 2 and Year 4 working as teams to try and record the fastest times in running events or the highest scores in throwing and jumping events. At the same time, Year 6 children were individually pitting their wits against the best of the best from the local area in athletic events such as sprints, 400m, long-jump, triple jump and even shot-put! The climax of the competition was Springbank's favourite event: the relay! Both the Year 4 and Year 6 teams absolutely obliterated the competition, winning their respective relays by a full changeover in both instances. The final results showed that the contest had been tight with title rivals Pudsey Southroyd producing their usual competitive display but it was Springbank and Westroyd who had amassed the highest number of first-place finishes and ultimately claimed the gold medal. The result also means that, for the third time in the past five years, Springbank have done the formidable double of being both Indoor and Outdoor Athletics champions for the year. As always, well done Springbank!
  • Finale Concert at Leeds Town Hall

    Wed 28 Jun 2017 Mrs Ashley-Cooper
On Thursday 22nd June, 10 of our Year 5 and 6 children took part in the Leeds Schools Music Association Finale Concert at Leeds Town Hall. After a series of rehearsals and lots of practice of a set of fabulous songs, the children shone in the final performance. They sang some very complex songs with lots of overlapping parts and intricate harmonies and the end result really was wonderful. The children behaved beautifully and we are very proud of them all.
