Summer 1 Week 1 24.4.26

BACK TO SCHOOL FOR THE SUMMER TERM

Hello!

It has been lovely to be back with the children this week, hearing all about their holidays and enjoying new learning.

In maths, we have been practising strategies for counting larger sets. The children have been recapping the rules for counting accurately. We have been moving objects to count, putting objects into sets and smaller groups to help us count larger amounts and coming up with strategies to count immovable objects by grouping, crossing out and counting in particular orders.

Here is a link to a Numberblocks episode about counting to 20: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0006s5q/numberblocks-series-4-i-can-count-to-twenty

We have been reading the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar which is our focus text for our Talk 4 Writing unit. We have been reading and discussing the story and making up actions to help us to retell the story. We will continue with this story next week. The children will be creating their own story maps to help retell the story and then using their phonic knowledge to write parts of the story.

In maths next week we will be focusing on subitising and making 6 in different ways.

Messages:

We are looking forward to our reception assembly where we will be sharing with you our recent learning based upon the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This will be on Wednesday 6th May at 9.15am in the school hall.

As the weather starts to get warmer, please ensure that your child has a sun hat and sun cream applied when it is sunny. Please also make sure your child has a raincoat and wellies in school as this allows us to be out whatever the weather!

Thank you for your support helping your child to access Numbots. This program really helps to speed up mental recall. Please continue to use this at home. We will be giving certificates out this term.

Have a lovely weekend!

The Reception Team
