  • Miss Hughes visited to our link school in India during October half term

    Thu 08 Nov 2012

For the past two years we have had a link with a school in Gujerat in India and have shared collaborative learning projects with them. Some of our children have got to know children from our link school through letters and emails.

We applied for funding from the British Council to enable a reciporcal visit to take place between a teacher from each school and we were successful in securing the funding.

So during October half term Miss Hughes went to visit the school in India to share more work and plan for Year Four's upcoming topic.  She had a fantastic time and our link school Anand Vidya Vihar made her very welcome with dance presentations, local food and much more. She was impressed by the Indian Pupil's learning and enjoyed her time at the school.  Miss Hughes is leading a whole school assembly next week to share her experiences and the hundreds of photographs she took!

We are now hoping to receive a reciprocal visit and are looking forward to welcoming the teacher from India to share the fantastic things we do here at Springbank. Year 4 are also looking forward to starting their India Topic in the Spring term.

This is all part of our International curriculum and work towards the Stephen Lawrence Standard. This learning enables our children to develop a greater awareness of different cultures and promotes celebrating diversity and respect for all, something we believe is extremely important for all our children.

  • Springbank's Olympic Sports Day

    Wed 27 Jun 2012

We were lucky enough to dodge the recent awful weather and Sports Day took place as planned. It was a fantastic morning.

This year Sports Day was done in an Olympic theme with the children representing 8 countries to compete in all the events. The countries represented were Brazil, Canada, China, Greece, Jamaica, Kenya, New Zealand and Spain.

Before Sports Day the children had spent a morning in their teams learning about the country they were representing and made flags and banners to support their team. They even had a go at learning the National Anthem for their country.

On the day the children came dressed in their countries colours and looked super. We were really proud of all the children as they entered into Sports Day with the spirit of the Olympics- respect for all and supporting each other fully. Everybody gave it their all and some children showed real determination in finishing races despite others having finished before them. Congratulations to Spain and Canada who came joint first with 55 points.

We must say a big thank you to Mr Chapman who spent a huge amount of time organising the whole event and thank you to those parents and other family members who came along to support us. A great morning!

  • Olympic torch event

    Mon 25 Jun 2012

Monday 25th June was an extremely early start for 10 Springbank children and staff. They met at 5.55am outside school to set off for the John Charles Sports Centre to attend the Olympic Torch Event.

The children had a great time and got to see an Olympic torch hand over first hand- a truly memorable event. Thank you to the parents for getting your children up out of bed at such an early hour and to Miss Moseley, Miss Tabberer and Miss Charles for starting their working day 3 hours early. Well worth it though!
