Over the past 2 weeks the whole school has been involved with a national art education project called The World Reimagined. This project was for us to reimagine the world we live in and the world we can create together.

The World Reimagined is a ground-breaking, national art education project to transform how we understand the Transatlantic Trade of Enslaved Africans and its impact on all of us in terms of racial injustice. The children have learnt about the history of the Transatlantic Trade in an age relevant context and how this has resulted in racial inequality in the past and present day. The World Reimagined seeks to educate one another about the journeys we have been on and how we come to be in the places we are.

Our children are living in a society that is calling for racial justice and equality and this project has supported our continuous learning through our ‘No outsiders’ programme. The World Reimagined project has helped us to educate our children about people of African heritage and how their people and culture has travelled across the world due to diaspora of African people because of the Transatlantic Trade. 

Each year group has found out about an aspect of African culture and then created a piece of art work in response to their research. The artwork was then been curated and pieced together to create a collaborative piece of art on a 3D globe! We also had the opportunity to work alongside Alison Smith who is a sculptor from The Henry Moore Institute. It has been a wonderful and informative project to have been involved in, every child in school has had the opportunity to take part!

The globe will be taken away to be displayed in a local community building. In September it will be on show in Leeds train station, along with globes that have been created by schools from around Leeds. We will update you with the exact information when we receive it from The World Reimagined team.

Year 5 have had a great time at their giant sleepover - they have waited two years for this to happen and the excitement levels were extremely high!  The evening started with a game of hide and seek around the school building; it was really good fun with only a couple of children managing not to get 'found'.  The children enjoyed their take away dinner before getting ready for the disco. After a good old boogie, it was time to get ready for bed and settle down to watch some films in the hall.  It was a fantastic night for everyone!  A huge thank you to Miss Ferguson, Mr Stein, Mrs Walton, Mrs Horne, Mrs Harris and Miss Percival for staying awake all night on a Friday so the children could enjoy this brilliant sleepover experience!
