On Tuesday, the day we have been waiting for finally arrived! We took 36 children to Sheffield Arena to the Young Voices concert to sing and what a fantastic time we had. There were around 5000 children taking part from schools all over Yorkshire, as well as the Urban Strides street dance crew, The Shires, Ruti and Tony Hadley. The children had a long rehearsal in the afternoon and their energy was just fabulous. They have been working on a huge repertoire of songs since September, including a Queen medley, Shiny Happy People by REM, Ode to Joy, some lovely Disney songs and many more. There were dance moves to remember as well as harmonies in some of the songs and the children were just brilliant. The show lasted just under two hours and the children were so enthusiastic. It was clear to see that they all had a wonderful time. A big well done to all involved and thank you to parents who have supported their children with this over the last few months, as well as to staff who gave up their time to take the children to this wonderful event.
Yesterday we celebrated music in our school with our Christmas Music Concert. We have over 80 children who learn an instrument at school and so this was a fantastic opportunity to showcase what they have been learning. Lots of children have only been learning their instrument since September and are already showing great progress in that short amount of time. We had a real mix, starting off with our fabulous orchestra and then we were entertained by guitars, keyboards, drums, string, brass and woodwind instruments. There were groups performances, duets and solos and all the children involved did a wonderful job in their performances.
On Wednesday, Young Voices club visited the people who attend the Live at Home scheme at St John's Church Hall. This is something we do at a few different points in the year and is a great way to connect with people of different ages. In fact, one lady was celebrating her 100th birthday the very next day! We started by singing happy birthday which she was thrilled by then the children sang a selection of Christmas songs before mulling around to have a chat with everyone. It was a lovely morning and the children behaved and sang beautifully.
