Summer 2 Week 2 12.6.26

Hello!

This week in reception the children have continued learning about toys. They have explored some old toys, thinking about how they would have been used and whether they would like to play with these old toys. We have compared old and new toys, discussing things like the material they are made from and features they have such as wind-up mechanisms or buttons to press. We have learned about how moving vehicles work, looking at the function of the axel and the wheels. The children have all designed their own moving vehicle and have started to make these using a range of methods in the process.

In maths we have been continuing to use rekenreks, moving different amounts of beads by sight, as opposed to counting out. We have explored the concepts of more and fewer when using the rekenreks and have matched amounts to visual representations such as people on a bus or birds on a wire. You can have a go with this virtual rekenrek. We have used one with 2 rows but you might like to explore other amounts at home too:

Next week we will be continuing to create our moving vehicles and we will explore some more about how the mechanisms in a moving vehicle work.

In maths we will be exploring patterns in our number system, counting beyond 20. You might like to have a go at home using this interactive hundred square which can be set to different amounts of numbers:

Next week’s weather is quite mixed so please ensure your child has both a raincoat and a sunhat with them each day.

We look forward to seeing you for our Sports Day on Tuesday 16th June at 9.15am. If your child has a t-shirt which matches their team colour then they can wear this on the day. Lions is red, Tigers is yellow, Panthers is green and Jaguars is blue.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Reception Team
