Indoor Athletics Champions for West Leeds
Congratulations to the Springbank indoor athletics team who, for the second year running, claimed the crown of Priesthorpe cluster champions last week. In the area final all the winners of the previous rounds met for a fiercely intense round of athletics at Priesthorpe High School. In the early stages of the competition Springbank were well matched with their competitors claiming between first and third place in all the girls and boys runs. At the same time, the field events were dominated by the Springbank boys and girls with the majority claiming first and second place overall. It was the relay section of the competition which ended up making all the difference though with both the boys and girls laying down an extraordinary marker by taking the hurdles and sprint relays with a clean sweep of first places in a display of pure focus and determination. At the close of play it came down to a tight call but Springbank ended up taking the title by a matter of points over regular rivals Lower Wortley. The athletes are now going into the top-six contest in the Leeds City finals which take place in January - an outstanding effort by all!
