Year 3 went on a trip to Nell Bank where they enjoyed travelling back to prehistoric Britain. As a group, they built shelters from sticks and animal skin; just as Stone Age people would have. They also attempted to light a small fire using flint and steel, which as they discovered was not an easy task! Whilst sat in a real Stone Age round house, the children enjoyed weaving baskets, learning about tools and creating cave paintings made from squashed chalk and water. The children absolutely loved doing these activities and we had such a fantastic day as a result!
To launch their topic on Ancient Greece, Year 4 had a visit from an archaeologist called Katerina. Katerina talked to the children about what life was like in Ancient Greece and explained to them how we know so much about the civilisation. Katerina led the children on an archaeological journey filled with various activities to immerse them in Ancient Greek culture. To start the day, the children were shown a range of artefacts which they were asked to investigate to try and work out what they were! They were then shown the Ancient Greek alphabet and set out decoding a set of words all about Greece before competing in an Ancient Greek game. In the afternoon, the children took part in an art activity before spending some time trying on and learning about Ancient Greek armour and warfare. They can't wait to find out more over the course of the Autumn term!
Our Reception children have had a fantastic start to their school journey! Over the past few weeks, they have settled into their new routines beautifully, showing great confidence and enthusiasm each day. They have enjoyed getting to know their new teachers and have already formed some lovely new friendships along the way. It has been wonderful to see them exploring their new environment, learning through play and engaging in a wide range of activities. Their teachers are incredibly proud of how well they have adapted and the amazing work they are already producing. Take a look at some of the pictures below to see what they have been getting up to!
Year 2 had a wonderful time on their trip to Skelton Grange! The children put their survival skills to the test, working brilliantly in teams to solve challenges and build some very impressive dens. We were so proud of the way they encouraged each other, shared ideas and communicated so clearly. There was also plenty of laughter and excitement as the children dashed through the woods, hiding from pirates and enjoying the freedom of outdoor play. It was such a joy to see their enthusiasm and teamwork shining throughout the day!
For the last three years we have run our KS2 Filey trip in September rather than July, which has proved successful. The beach is much always much quieter…we have been the only school there compared to July when there would often be 5-10 other schools on the beach. It is also such a perfect day for the children to spend time with friends, who they may not have seen over the summer holidays. The day was spent building sand sculptures, digging holes, playing games and paddling in the sea. The children had a great day so it was perfect way to spend a day at the start of a new school year.
Look at all the amazing creations by our children for the annual Easter Egg competition. Well done to everyone who took part.
This week, Year 3 and 4 performed their Christmas production, 'It's Christmas!' The children performed their play really well. We were all very proud of the children and the hard work they have put into their acting, singing and dancing that the children did throughout the show. It certainly left everyone feeling very Christmassy!
This week the children of Reception wowed their parents and carers with their amazing rendition of 'Whoops-a-Daisy Angel.' The children had great fun performing their songs, dances and lines to the audience. Thank you so much to all the parents and carers who were able to join us for the performances and for all your help with costumes and practising lines at home.
Year 2 children were fantastic in their Christmas concert. They sang beautifully throughout and entertained the audience with their dance moves and actions. Well done Year 2 - you did a great job!
Our Year 1 children put on a fabulous Christmas concert last week. They entertained their parents and family members with a selection of Christmas songs and dances. The children had clearly worked really hard learning all the songs, actions and dances. Well done Year 1 – you did a brilliant job!
