We had a very special visitor at Springbank today! Santa took some time out of his very busy schedule to call into school to see our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children – he even brought with him a few presents for each class as all the children are on his good list! Unfortunately, he had to rush off back to North Pole to get ready for Christmas Eve so wasn’t able to see the children in KS2 but he is looking forward to visiting everyone on Christmas Eve.
We are incredibly proud of our Reception classes for completing their very first Christmas show in front of parents. The children did an amazing job, showing great confidence and enthusiasm. They brought lots of smiles and laughter to everyone watching! It was a wonderful performance and a lovely way to celebrate all their hard work - well done Reception!
Year 3 and 4 have had a fantastic time this week showing off their acting, singing and dancing skills in their Christmas show, ‘A Primary School Christmas Musical’! During the last half term, the children have put in so much effort to learn their lines, the lyrics to the songs and the dances or actions and it was wonderful to see it all come together during the three shows they did this week- well done Years 3 and 4!
Year 2 children were fantastic in their Christmas concert. They sang beautifully throughout and entertained the audience with their dance moves and actions. Well done Year 2 - you did a great job!
Our Year 1 children put on a fabulous Christmas concert last week. They entertained their parents and family members with a selection of Christmas songs and dances. The children had clearly worked really hard learning all the songs, actions and dances. Well done Year 1 – you did a brilliant job!
Year 5 had two fantastic and memorable 'Restaurant Evenings' as part of their DT enterprise project. The children took full responsibility for planning, preparing and cooking a meal, before confidently serving it to their adults. Each group created a delicious tomato-based dish, including favourites such as curry, spaghetti Bolognese and lasagne. The event showcased the children’s teamwork, organisation and cooking skills! The evening was a great success, raising over £400 for their enterprise project. Well done to all of Year 5 for their hard work and enthusiasm - and thank you to everyone who came along to support them!
The Reception & Year 1 children had a fantastic time on their trip to Leeds Playhouse to see Stick Man. They were captivated by the performance and loved seeing a well-known story brought to life on stage. It was a wonderful introduction to the magic of theatre and their excitement shone throughout the show.
Over half of our Year 5 children volunteered to visit St John’s Church Hall, to entertain older members of our community at the Farsley Live at Home scheme’s Christmas Lunch. They sang lots of their favourite Christmas songs, and it turned into a festive singalong as many of the members joined in with them. There was even a visit and treats from Santa! The children had a great time, and the audience really enjoyed their performance.
Year 4 enjoyed an exciting visit to the Royal Armouries in Leeds to take part in a Greek Mythology workshop. During the workshop, the children learnt about the Oracle of Delphi and how messages were believed to be delivered from the god Apollo. They then took part in Spartan warrior training, where they practised using a shield, learned how Spartans would “steal” as part of their training, and completed a series of fitness challenges. The children also had great fun acting out the dramatic story of Perseus and Medusa, bringing the myth to life through role-play. To round off the day, everyone watched a combat display between a Roman and a Celt! It was a memorable trip and thoroughly enjoyed!
We started the festive season off in style this week, with a concert full of Christmas songs and other lovely music, from many of our Year 5 and 6 musicians. Our orchestra, which now has 30 members in Y3-6, started the concert off, then we heard solos and group pieces from keyboard players, violinists, brass players, drummers, pianists and a clarinetist, before our Year 5 and 6 guitar group were joined by drums and keyboard plus the Year 5 singers, to perform “Titanium”. It was a fabulous celebration of the children’s musical talents at all levels. Well done to all the children who performed!
